After some terrible weather on the Saturday the winds and swell had dropped enough to allow the Sealions first comp to go ahead with the sun even coming out for the occasion! While conditions had improved overnight the was still a little swell around and the water was quite stirred up resulting in some poor visibility.
Numbers were good with 34 divers signing on and 8 boats ranging from 21 ft to less than 12 ft headed at 8.00 am. Most boats headed north to two and three mile reefs in search of clear water with some keen individuals even making the run all the way up to
BirdIsland where they were rewarded with some cleaner conditions.
Back at the ramp at 1.00pm everyone waited to see what had been shot and who was able to find fish. When all fish had been weighed 1st place went to Alex Bond with 499.9 points followed by Glen Bath on 336.3 points and Tom Linwood rounded out third place with 322.7 points.
The biggest fish for the day was a 6.6kg Kingfish taken by Alex Bond. Tom Linwood shot a black drummer over 100 points and there were also some large red rock cod, blue morwong and bream weighed in.
Special thanks to everyone who helped organise the day, brought bbq's, cooked bbq's, brought boats and helped out in general. It was a great day, See you all at Swansea next month.
